Brook Architecture is the design entity for a 27,000 SF single -story fire station in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood. Ujamaa Construction was awarded the design build project to construct the city’s second largest fire station.

The building has three programmatic zones.

  • District Command Center – a business center, operating on a normal 9-5 business schedule with open office spaces and a conference room;

  • Main Firehouse – contains the sleeping quarters, locker rooms, full-service kitchen, dining room, training room, day room and other home-away-from-home features for approximately 20 fire fighters;

  • Apparatus Room – the garage for the fire trucks, turn-out gear room, and hose tower that operates on 24hr/day schedule.

During design development the project team changed a solid masonry wall in the training from punched openings to a full height curtain wall system to create a visual connection to the neighboring community holders.

The project is pursuing LEED Silver.
