Keystone Place

Chicago, IL

Located in the south side neighborhood of Woodlawn, Keystone Place is one of Chicago Housing Authority’s mixed-income infill rental developments. The 19 scattered site buildings contain 69 affordable and market-rate units rented to low- and moderate- income families. Brook Architecture provided complete design and project management services including presentations to the Department of Planning and Development. The presentations had to convey how the buildings would transform nineteen vacant lots into vibrant multi-tenant buildings on uninterrupted street-fronts.

The façades of Keystone Place’s two building types feature classical masonry details. Contrasting cornerstones and a keystone inset over each entry add presence and historical character to the 3-unit building. In contrast, the 6-unit structure welcomes residents with a modern steel and glass entry enhanced with a strong brick and masonry surround. The buildings offer families spacious 3- and 4-bedroom units with in-unit laundry and ample storage in bedrooms and corridors.
