Brook worked as an extension of their client, Chicago Public Schools, to design the conversion of a private multi-tenant leased medical office space into a Pre-kindergarten school. The building is located on an angled corner and the shape of the building mimics the angle of the streets, proving a challenge for creating soft lines appropriate for the age group intended to occupy the space and the open feel CPS wanted for the end users.

An aggressive schedule made reaching consensus on acceptable design solutions even more of a challenge. CPS was targeting a building move-in 12 months from the beginning of the Schematic Design Phase. The Brook team worked through several options with the CPS Design Manager before selecting a design that features an informal gathering space with colorful soft seating under a green acoustical cloud in the first-floor lobby.

The project is now in Construction with anticipated Substantial Completion in Summer of 2023.
