Brook Architecture is the design entity for a 27,000 SF single -story fire station in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood. Ujamaa Construction was awarded the design build project to construct the city’s second largest fire station.
The building has three programmatic zones.
District Command Center – a business center, operating on a normal 9-5 business schedule with open office spaces and a conference room;
Main Firehouse – contains the sleeping quarters, locker rooms, full-service kitchen, dining room, training room, day room and other home-away-from-home features for approximately 20 fire fighters;
Apparatus Room – the garage for the fire trucks, turn-out gear room, and hose tower that operates on 24hr/day schedule.
During design development the project team changed a solid masonry wall in the training from punched openings to a full height curtain wall system to create a visual connection to the neighboring community holders.
The project is pursuing LEED Silver.
